Sweet Treats

I have to confess that I'm sucker for a good dessert and cupcakes are always on the top of the list. I remember requesting them as a small child because they were the perfect size for my miniature self. I also like the fact that you can mix and match the flavors, whereas a cake you typically get just one choice. Above I've rounded up some of my favorite cupcakes shops in San Diego.

I had my first Sugar & Scribe Bakery cupcake at a local restaurant in Pacific Beach and have been hooked ever since. I ended up ordering our anniversary cake there this last November for our photo shoot and we gobbled it up afterward (it's the pink cake in my profile!). My husband got me a dozen Sprinkles cupcakes for my 27th birthday and I was on a sugar high for a week. I was so happy because it was right after they opened their first shop in San Diego in the La Jolla area. I was just introduced to Pure Cupcakes, another cute shop in my neighborhood of PB, by a friend who ordered a dozen of the miniature cakes for a birthday celebration. The PB Bliss, comprised of dark chocolate and peanut butter, is one not be missed! Finally, the first cupcake shop I visited in San Diego shortly after I moved here is BabyCakes and have made many trips back over the years. Their cupcakes are generous and the flavors vary by the baker's whim of the day. I usually share one cupcake with a friend and polish off with a glass of bubbly.

The really great thing about cupcakes is that they are not just reserved for special occasions. Sometimes you just need a little sweet treat to make an average day even better. Enjoy!
