Valentine's Day can drum up feelings of excitement or terror depending on your status. I've always taken it as a fun holiday whether taken or single, but that probably has to do with my undeniable love of the color pink. My single days were spent with my closest girlfriends celebrating with obscene amounts of sweets (or maybe that was only me) and a night out at the neighborhood bar searching for other singles in our "situation." While those days were definitely a good time, I'm happy to say I've been tied down now for eight years and have a different way to celebrate the day of love.
My husband and I typically forgo making dinner reservations and cook up something delicious at home. We find that the crowded restaurants are too pricey with their prefix menus and generic service, so we make it a romantic date night in. While we normally cook up some fancy lobster or seafood dish, this year I'm thinking it would be fun to switch it up and make a heart-shaped pizza to enjoy with a vintage bottle of wine and hand-dipped strawberries for dessert. This will be our second Valentine's together as a married couple, so I still find novelty in trying to drum up ways to surprise my love.
