On Turning 30

It's hard to believe that another decade of my life has went by. Thursday will be my 30th birthday and sometimes it feels like I just celebrated my 10th or 20th; both birthdays I remember quite well, the earlier with a karaoke pizza-party my mom organized and the latter a drunken summer in Chico with college friends.

I do not regret a minute of the last decade. At times when I felt like I should have achieved so much more by this birthday, I look back at everything I have done and know that 30 is simply a beginning, not an end. Here's what I'm most proud of these last 10 years:

*Graduating from a university in 4 years from a college that is affectionately known for it's "5 Year Plan" and being one of the first in my family to receive a college diploma.

*Packing up my entire life into my tiny Dodge Neon to move to a city completely unknown to me  immediately after college graduation- many phone calls were made to dad asking for just "another $20."

*Meeting the man of my dreams without even looking for him. Our wedding was one of the best days of my life. ever. Marriage is just as great, too.

*Becoming an aunt to a beautiful niece and two amazing nephews. They make me look forward to having my own little ones someday.

*Building a career in commercial real estate for 5 years and then uprooting myself completely to start a whole new one in media. I was terrified to do so, but took the leap anyway.

*Starting this blog to journal my life and things that make me smile. I always kept a diary growing up and I realized journaling is literally my therapy.

*Defining my own personal style and what will always work for me. I know what I love {typically girly and anything striped}, what I don't {too many trends} and what I can't do without {a bright pink lipstick}.

*Realizing who my good and true friends are, and even if I can only count them on one hand, knowing I'm pretty lucky.

It's not the longest list ever, but I look forward to adding to it in my next 10 years. Cheers to 30!
