Home Office Inspiration

I have been day dreaming of making over our spare bedroom (a.k.a junk room) for a little bit now. I imagine it as a functional office with the occasional guest staying over when needed. Currently I'm using my laptop in front of the television to do blogging and web browsing, which is not ideal on my posture, not to mention the constant distraction that doesn't help to get my creative juices flowing.

We rent a two-story townhouse near the beach and while it's not our dream home, we have been residing there for almost four years now and it's what we call "home." Since we got married, I've been trying to spruce up our place in any little way possible: new prints and shower curtain for the bathroom, switching out frames and photos throughout the house, new couches for the living room, etc. The home office should be doable for us if we really set our minds to it (*hint, hint*). Here are some ideas that will help us accomplish our home office makeover:
  • Clean, clear and declutter: Easier said than done, I know. We have files upon files and bookshelves stacked to the ceiling of our spare room taking up valuable space. A few days of spring cleaning and getting rid of things we don't need would do wonders for the little room.
  • Organize:  Once the cleaning and clearing of unused items is done, it's time for some organizing! We have a lot of sentimental items from our childhood that cannot be thrown out but has nowhere else to go, so once we organize and consolidate, I think it will clear more space up as well.
  • Shop: Okay, this is my favorite action item on this list. As you can tell from the images above, I'm inspired by the "clean," all-white look with hints of color. Our old IKEA student desk has got to go and I'll be on the lookout for the perfect white desk and chair (hello garage sales!). I would love to add some shelves above the desk area, not only to house some of our coveted books, but to display photos and inspiration boards as well.
Hopefully with some careful planning, we can work our way through this list and make all of my day dreaming a reality. Even getting started with cleaning will be a step in the right direction. I imagine our home office vision will be an ever-evolving creative process and I'll be sure to update any progress we make. Have a great weekend all!
